John Rossetti, 18, was killed around 11:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 26, when his gray Honda Civic struck the tree on Woodbine Drive, came to rest on its passenger side, and then the engine block and tree burst into flames, said Carmel Police Lt. John Dearman.

Rossetti was born to John Rossetti and Cherie Purdy on March 17, 2001, in Yonkers. He grew up in Mahopac and attended Mahopac High School.

The love, pride, and joy of his mother, Cherie’s life, as well as her constant for the past 18 years, Rossetti was known for being adventurous, his obituary said.

He spent his time outdoors, whether riding his quad or playing any sport that he could enroll in. He played basketball, football, and soccer, but had a special love for baseball, the obit said.

As he grew older, Rossetti developed a notorious fashion sense. His favorite pair of shoes were his Gucci slides.

Rossetti is survived by his parents; his grandmother, Anne Marie Purdy of Mahopac; brother, Anthony, as well as two men he was lucky to have as role models, Mark Schilio and Matthew Stickrodt.

He is also survived by his aunts, Ashley (Matt) Corrao, Tara (Jeff) Davis, and his uncle, Justin Purdy. John was predeceased by his grandfather, Keith Purdy.

A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 418 Route 6, in Mahopac.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home.

A GoFundMe Memorial Fund site has also been set-up for the family.
